A variety of experiences at Ølberg harbour

A scenic fishing boat harbour

Ølberg Harbour is an old fishing boat harbour still in use today. Here, you can watch colourful fishing boats dock with nets and traps. Every now and then local fishermen sell shellfish at the harbour. If you wish to fish yourself, you can try your luck along the cliffs. Children can search for crabs in the shallows or fish with a line from the harbour. The boathouses along the harbour are well maintained.

At the harbour stands a cabin from World War II. Originally located further inland along with two identical cabins, it was moved to Ølberg Harbour in the 1950s. In this twelve-sided cabin, 10 to 12 Russian prisoners of war lived and worked on the German war installations at Ølberg. This is one of two known and preserved cabins used by Russian prisoners. The cabin provides insight into the history of the prisoners of war and how they lived under poor conditions.

Just off Ølberg harbour there is a small hill. At the top of the hill is a bunker with a World War II running trench. You can explore several memorial facilities from the war nearby the forest called Ølbergskogen. Among the dense trees inside the forest, is an entire military camp that was built by the Germans for storing weapons during World War II.

Ølberg beach

Ølberg beach is approximately 400 meters long with sand dunes. It is easily accessible for everyone. The water is shallow and great for swimming. The beach is more sheltered than most beaches along the Jæren coast and is particularly popular among campers and families with small children.
