Jæren is known for long, sandy beaches with shallow water and fine-grained sand. Some of the beaches are several kilometers long. Sola beach is visited by two million guests each year.

Hikers and surfers love the high waves and the silky white beaches of Sola. The beaches of the coast of Jæren is referred to as “Best in Norway for surfing”, one of the most beautiful beach areas in the country and stretches past the municipality of Sola for several kilometers along the west coast. You don't have to be a professional surfer to ride the high waves. If you have always dreamed of learning how to surf, you will find surf schools for both beginners and pros.

Solastranden beach

Solastranden beach, just by Stavanger Airport is a long and sandy beach that will immediately give you a proper southern atmosphere on a hot summer day. Sun and beach life may not be something you typically associate with Norway, but if you're traveling to Stavanger during the summer, you'll find that Solastranden beach is an exception.

Rege beach

Rege beach lies in the extension of Solastranden and runs west towards Ølberg. If you want to hike from Sola beach to Ølberg and Vigdel, you will get an exciting trip through beaches, hills and rocky cliffs. Here you can also experience war memories alongside a spectacular seafront scenery.

Ølberg beach

Ølberg beach is a beautiful beach where you can sunbathe among the dunes or take a dip in the delicious waters. This is a beach that has most of the amenities, so bring the whole family for a cozy day trip here. The water is shallow, making it perfect for swimming with small children.

Vigdel beach

Vigdel Beach is a beautiful beach one km south of Ølberg harbour. There are good parking facilities here.

Hellestø beach

Hellestø beach is a beautiful beach with both sand and pebbles. Hellestø is good for surfing. If you prefer a less crowded beach, Hellestø is a good option.

Traces of Viking Age can be found throughout the municipality of Sola. The famous Battle of Hafrsfjord brought Norway together into one kingdom. On Ytraberget stands a beautiful sculpture illustrating what it might have looked like when boats and ships were assembled before the battle.
