Viking trail - a round trip with Viking history tracks

This beautiful trail is an initiative of Sola Historielag and runs past many of the Viking Age tracks found in the municipality. The trail can be walked both ways, and is well marked.

The tour starts from the parking lot at, and since it's a round trip you can start wherever you want and get the same tour experience.

From the end of the car park, turn left down Erlingveien. At the bottom of the hill you reach the Sola school, where there is an informational sign about Erling's Quilstones, and where you also see one of these. At Sola school it is also possible to significantly cut down on the trip if the original trip is too long, by entering on the right and through the underpass under Transport Corridor West and onto Sola Prestegårdsvei at Sømme Kindergarten. Then the trip is cut down to about 4.7 km.

But we continue further by following the main road, which now changes its name to Kolnesvegen. We follow this for a long way, until we turn right at Kolnesvegen 131-133. Go past the building and follow the tractor road a little before it becomes asphalt again up to Tjoravegen. When we get up the road we take a little detail down to the right and into Tjora old cemetery to take a closer look at the old ones Viking Crosses as it stands there.

Return to where you came up on Tjoravegen and follow Tjoravegen a little further before turning right and through the underpass under Tanangervegen (Transport Corridor West). Go straight ahead before you take down Søndre Hogstadveg. A little down the road you will reach the information sign about the quilling stones at Hogstad. Vi tanangerveien a. There we turn left and onto Sola Prestegårdsvei.

Følg denne til du er på på Sola sea, turn left and follow the road down to Hafrsfjorden. Down by the fjord you can see the memorial monument erected at the 1150 year commemoration Battle of Hafrsfjord straight out and to the left. Here you have a nice view over the Hafrsfjord.

Turn right into the museum area, and feel free to stop by the fine exhibitions of Jær Museum duck Museum of Aviation History. At the end of Nämmevågen follow the hill up to the right, turn left over the bridge and follow the road past Quality Airport Hotel before turning right into the North Sea Road.

Followed this further upwards, you will get the old Sola Chapel and the chicken farm on the west side, and you will soon have taken the whole trip. Do not go straight to the parking lot, but take the small turn near Erling and Astridbautas, and not least stop by the Sola Ruinkyrkje!
